Super Mario: Escape From Bowser Island is a web film written, produced, and directed by EB The Original Master. In this film, Bowser and Bowser Jr. has built a castle on a small island and has kidnapped Princess Peach to take her there. It's up to Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, and Toadette to visit various islands to save her. The film was released on June 17, 2020 and two days later on June 19, 2020, a Fixed Cut version was released.

Production[]

  • The film was announced on August 18, 2019 and a small announcement trailer was uploaded afterwards.
  • According to the creator, the film is being done on Roblox Studio, Paint 3D, Google Slides, and all edited using Windows Movie Maker.
  • The films scenes are all made up of screenshots with captains over them acting as subtitles for character dialogue with voice blurbs from various Mario games.
  • The films "animation" are dragged around Roblox Studio models because the creator is not a professional animator nor will ever be.
  • On August 26, 2019, the first ever clip of the film was uploaded to YouTube which features the Bowser Dance and the Yoshi's Fix It Up Dances.
  • On August 31, 2019, a new poster of the film was revealed. It featured the main characters on Bowser Island with a fireworks display in a night setting.
  • On September 9, 2019, another clip was uploaded to YouTube which features a scene from Desert Island where Toad gives Toadette a boost from throwing a Koopa shell directly at her.
  • On September 29, 2019, the film's production have reached the 60 minute mark.
  • On November 18, 2019, a third poster for the film was revealed. Similar to the second one, it features the main characters on Bowser Island, this time facing towards the castle.
  • On December 5, 2019, an official thumbnail for the movie was created.
  • On December 8, 2019, the film's production have reached the 2 hour mark.
  • On January 2, 2020, the films production is put at hiatus due to a laptop incident and will resume once the situation is fixed.
  • On January 6, 2020, the films production hiatus has ended!
  • On February 3, 2020, a new trailer dropped at 10:00 AM EST.
  • On February 24, 2020, the Movie Guide was completed.
  • On March 13, 2020, the film's production have reached the 3 hour mark.
  • On June 12, 2020, a video was dropped announcing the film's release on June 17, 2020.
  • On June 19, 2020, a Fixed Cut version of the film was release. This version omits all the errors from the original film including scenes that would occasionally repeat itself, and a missing scene during the Petey Piranha boss fight.

Trivia[]

  • Toadette has eyelashes in this film unlike her design in the Super Mario games where her facial features are similar to other Toad species.
  • Toadsworth doesn't walk around with a cane like he does in the Super Mario games.
  • Toad and Toadette are siblings here. Toad is the older brother and Toadette is his younger sister.

  • Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong's sprite from the 1981 arcade game makes a brief cameo.
  • Super Mario Bros.: An 8-bit sprite of Luigi is seen. The Retro Mushroom power-up is based off of the Super Mushroom sprite from that game. A screenshot of the game's title screen is shown in Bowser's security camera footage. A few sound effects from the game.

  • Super Mario World: Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi's sprites when they obtain the Retro Mushroom are from this game. A screenshot of the game's title screen is shown in Bowser's security camera footage and a few sound effects. Bowser flies around in his clown car during the final act of the Clownser fight.
  • Super Mario 64: Some of Mario's voice clips are ripped from the game. During the first phase of the Bowser fight, Mario grabs Bowser's tail and footage from "Bowser in the Dark World" is shown onscreen. A few sound effects from the game.
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!: In the sacrifice scene of Princess Peach, Bowser quotes "Time for your lava bath princess" which is a callback to the show's episode, "Too Hot to Handle". In the events of Snow Island, Boris the Eagle kidnaps Toadette. Very similar to the show's first episode, "The Bird The Bird" where the episodes premise is that a Birdo kidnaps Toad thinking it's her son.
  • Super Mario Sunshine: Toadsworth's and Mario's voice clips are ripped from the game. Yoshi's friends in Yoshi's Island are trapped in eggs and needs a certain fruit in order to be set free.
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga: A few of Mario and Luigi's voice clips are ripped from the game. Mostly "Hammer","Thunder", and "Fire".
  • New Super Mario Bros.: The Mega Mushroom power-up is obtained by Mario while him and Luigi are inside Daisy's castle of Desert Island in search for one of the lost villagers. The item reversed sfx is used in a few scenes.
  • Super Mario 3D World: Clownser blows into a firework during his defeat, similar to Meowser's defeat from that game.
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: Boris the Eagle kidnaps Toadette in a similar fashion as Wingo, the main antagonist in the game.
  • Super Mario Maker: Builder Mario makes a brief appearance to construct the "Mario Airship". Toad's sprite in his retro form is based off his "Super Mario World" design from Super Mario Maker 2.
  • Mario Party (series)

-Mario Party: A few of the games jingles are played. Bowser's exaggerated faces are a callback to the minigame "Face Lift".

-Mario Party 7: Some of Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Wario, and Waluigi's voice clips are ripped from the game.

-Mario Party 8: Some of Toadette's voice clips are ripped from the game. Hammer Bro's decal art.

-Mario Party 9: Some of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi, and Princess Peach's voices are ripped from the game. A few of the games jingles are played.

-Luigi's Mansion: During the battle against King Boo, Luigi makes a quote referencing the events from that game. King Boo traps Mario, Yoshi, Toad, and Toadette in portraits.

-Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon: King Boo's design is ripped from that game. The Poltergust 5000 makes an appearance.

-SpongeBob SquarePants: In the scene where Toad pulls out a pineapple to feed to one of the Yoshi Eggs, a miniature version of SpongeBob's home appeared on screen. The "MY LEG!" audio clip was used when Toad threw away the miniature version of SpongeBob's home and the clip was used again at the end of the Petey Piranha boss fight.

-Pokemon Series: During the Kratos boss fight, Kratos calls Toadette "Jigglypuff".

On October 4, 2019, an official movie guide was announced for film. The guide is a Google Slides presentation on all the information about the film including a summary, the characters and their personalities, the locations, and many more. The link was provided on December 1, 2019, but working progress is still needed for the guide to be fully completed.
