Mario is the main character in Super Mario 3D Land and many other games. He is the older twin brother of Luigi and the husband of Peach.

He was voiced by Charles Martinet from 1991 to 2023, Lou Albano on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Bob Hoskins in the 1993 film, Richard Kind in the 1998 film based on Super Mario RPG, Don Brown in the Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone era with Gavin Brown, Chratt in the 2023 film, and Kevin Afghani since 2023.

Biography[]

Mario was born on January 12, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York, to an Italian butcher and a housewife. His younger brother, Luigi, was born in 1965.

Baby Mario and Baby Luigi lived in Brooklyn. One time, Baby Luigi spilled pasta all over Mario. That's why Mario likes pasta so much. His love of pasta has made him slightly overweight. When Baby Bowser kidnapped Baby Peach, the Baby Mario Bros. went to rescue her. When Young Toadsworth kidnapped Baby Bowsette, Baby Wario and Baby Waluigi came to her rescue. The Wario and Mario Bros. met, which is why they hate each other. Mario often saves Princess Peach. He is quite old because he was alive when Cranky Kong was rampaging. He was sent back to New York.

Mario often attended public school because his family was poor. Once, he skipped school to watch Neil Armstrong land on the moon.

Mario attended Grove Plumbing School in 1979, where he earned his degree in plumbing. He graduated a year later.

Mario later worked for Tony Figueroa at Tony's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning in Manhattan. Figueroa was a cheapskate who owed half the town money.

On August 11, 1984, Mario was working as a plumber when he came across an unfamiliar pipe on City Line Avenue. He decided to investigate it. He accidentally got sucked into the pipe and ended up in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario bumped into Bowser, who saw an unfamiliar face in the kingdom. Mario mocked him for being a turtle, since there weren't any talking turtles in New York. Bowser then kidnapped Mario for nine days. In anger, Bowser kidnapped Mario and took him to his secret dungeon. Luigi, who had also been sucked in, paid Bowser a $10,000 bond to free Mario, and Bowser accepted.

A few months later, he met Princess Peach Toadstool, the daughter of the king. Initially, George disapproved of Peach dating him because he had no royal lineage.

Physical Appearance[]

Mario still wears the same clothes he wore as a baby. He doesn't look very different, except for his black mustache, blue eyes, and brown hair. In Super Mario World, both Mario and Luigi have black hair. In the older game Super Mario Bros., Mario wears brown overalls and a red shirt and has a brown mustache. Overall, however, he hasn't changed much in nearly three decades. However, his fighting style has changed. In Super Mario 64, his fighting abilities were punching and kicking. Now, his abilities include Star Spins and other powers that can be granted. His appearance in EQG still features his classic hat, but he now wears a red T-shirt with a coin on it, jeans, brown sneakers, and white golf gloves. He also loses his mustache. He is Luigi's younger brother.

In the Super Mario & Trulli Tales crossover, Mario's hair is lighter brown, and his mustache is dark brown. He keeps his standard hat, gloves, overalls, and shoes. His red shirt now has short sleeves instead of long ones. Starting in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, he wears the Power Pad 2000 X on his left wrist.

Life in the Mushroom Kingdom[]

After fending off an entire legion of Koopa Troopas, Mario and Luigi vanquished Goombas and Koopa Troopas alike, even Bowser himself, before rescuing Princess Toadstool. Mario quickly fell unconscious and dreamed that he went to Subcon. There, he and Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool battled the 8-Bits and their leader, Wart. After traveling through different worlds, the group finally arrived in the sky, where Wart's fortress was located. They engaged in battle with the Tyrant Wart. In the middle of the fight, Mario noticed a nearby crop of vegetables. He got an idea and told his friends about his plan. They grabbed the vegetables and used them to choke Wart. Then, Mario woke up and went to the Mushroom Kingdom with Princess Peach, Luigi, and Toad.

On September 13, 1985, Bowser hired the Koopa Kids and attacked the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario then had to travel through seven worlds and save their rulers, who had all been turned into animals. Eventually, Mario reached Dark Land and entered Bowser's Castle. There, he faced Bowser in battle. Each time Bowser jumped, he destroyed part of the brick floor below him. After dodging fireballs and avoiding being squashed for a while, Bowser destroyed the last brick and fell. Mario opened the door at the other end of the chamber and found Princess Peach.

Three years later, Mario and his friends went on vacation to Dinosaur Island. Everyone assumed that Bowser was dead, but while they were there, he captured the princess again! This time, Mario remained in the same world but traveled to different areas, such as Donut Plains, Ice Cream Cave, and the Forest of Illusion. After a long journey, Mario arrived at Bowser's castle. When he entered, he saw three doors, each labeled "1," "2," and "3." Each door led to a room with a challenge inside. After many close calls and battles with enemies, Mario reached the top of the castle. There, he fought Bowser in his Koopa Clown Car. Bowser kept throwing toys at Mario, who threw them back. After the sixth thrown toy, Bowser fell off his copter. Unlike Bowser, Peach landed safely on the roof.

Four months later, Mario built a house so that he would no longer have to live in Peach's castle. Just as he was adding the finishing touches, a Toad burst through the door and told him that the princess had been captured. Mario rushed to the rescue and arrived one month early! When he arrived, a small legion of Bowser's newest infantry was waiting for him. However, Mario had been practicing his punch for a while, and not even the baddies' tough armor could stop it!

One year later, Peach invited Mario to her birthday party. After a decent-length walk, Mario arrived at the castle. When he entered the castle, however, he heard Bowser's voice saying that he had captured the princess. At first, Mario thought the message was "just a childish prank." Then, a Toad appeared from another door and confirmed that it was true. Every Toad, along with Toadstool, had been put under a spell that trapped them inside paintings. Toadster was the only one who survived the onslaught. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Mario began collecting power stars in places such as Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress, and Cool, Cool Mountain to free the Toads from their prisons. After collecting 123 stars, Mario journeyed to Bowser's final obstacle course, where he battled Goombas, Thwomps, and many other enemies. Finally, he made it to Bowser's arena. There, he challenged the Koopa King and won. Mario grabbed the final Power Star and flew home, freeing everyone from their prisons.

Personality[]

Mario is somewhat of an everyman with no distinct personality. Although he is usually heroic, there have been a few exceptions, as seen in the section below.

Mario is the bravest and most fearless character in history, having survived more dangerous situations than anyone else.

Mario is a skilled combatant who has fought millions of beings and always seems to come out on top. However, he is also reckless and prefers to fight rather than ask questions.

Mario is a caring brother and the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Despite his good qualities, he is not afraid to kill to get what he wants. This is evident from the millions of members of Bowser's army that he has killed.

Rivalry with Harold the Hero[]

Mario has always treated Harold the Hero terribly. For example, in Harold's game, Mario blew up his house (with Harold inside) and kidnapped his dog, forcing Harold to save his dog. This adds a darker aspect to Mario's personality.
